What policies do you need on your website?

Tags:

For your website to be legally compliant and follow GDPR guidelines you will need the following policies in place. We recommend you start putting these together once you decide to start planning your website.

All websites

If you are processing and storing data from clients, customers and website visitors you will need to have policies in place that cover how you manage that data.

🔐 Privacy Policy

All websites require this policy. It discloses what customer and website visitor data you store, how you store it and what you use it for. It should also list ways to contact you for you to remove a customer’s data upon request. You will need to generate one for your website detailing how you handle your client/customer data. It is a legal GDPR requirement to have this policy in place.

🍪 Cookie Policy

We highly recommend having a separate Cookie Policy as this lists explicitly the types of cookies installed on your website and what tracking is taking place – it also allows visitors to opt out of these if they so wish. We always set up this up as standard in all our website builds using CookieYes.

📜 Terms and Conditions Policy

If you offer a product or a service you will need a T&Cs page which outline the rules and regulations of your business and your website usage. This important document is both a social and legal contract with a website’s users. This is also useful for your business as you can cover your operating procedures and refer clients to it. We do not generate this policy for you as we do not know the legal intricacies of your business so it is up to you to supply this.

❌ Cancellation Policy

If you take bookings through your website, or a third party source, for either appointments or space hire you will need a cancellation policy to cover notice time required for cancellations and how refunds are managed. We do not generate this policy for you as we do not know the legal intricacies of your business so it is up to you to supply this.

🚚 Shipping / Delivery Policy

A shipping policy outlines the rules and procedures your business has in place for the shipment of products and services. It often includes cost and delivery times. We do not generate this policy for you as we do not know the legal intricacies of your business so it is up to you to supply this.

🔄 Returns and Refunds Policy

A return and refund policy is an agreement between customers and your business regarding returns and refunds. In the UK you must offer a full refund if an item is faulty, not as described or does not do what it’s supposed to. It can include the following information: product return timeframe and products that cannot be returned. How you give refunds: whether through original payment source, or replacement. We do not generate this policy for you as we do not know the legal intricacies of your business so it is up to you to supply this.
